With a distinguished career spanning 17 years in higher education, Dr. Garrido brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the academic realm. Combining a solid foundation in both the corporate world and academia, Dr. Garrido provides support for various courses at Carlos Albizu University as an adjunct professor.
Biografía
Dr. Garrido has taught both graduate and undergraduate students for nearly 8 years, with a commitment to excellence in teaching across various areas of business. Drawing on a rich background in conflict resolution and qualitative research, she imparts valuable insights that go beyond textbook knowledge. Dr. Garrido’s approach to teaching is characterized by a fusion of real-world experience and academic rigor. She has served on several dissertation committees in sociology, nursing and health sciences.
Investigación / Intereses de investigación
Dr. Garrido’s dissertation, The Development of a Theoretically-Supported Model of Resolution for Student Complaints in Higher Education, conducted a detailed assessment of the conflict resolution processes and systems of two universities. The study adopted a qualitative case study approach, conducting in-depth qualitative interviews with key university personnel as well as examined the current systems that are in place in the respective institutions. In addition, the researcher recommended a theoretically-supported system for handling student disputes/issues that takes the real-world challenges of these institutions into account. Theories from the fields of mediation and conflict resolution were applied in the context of the higher education setting to help support the process.
Additionally, Dr. Garrido served as a research assistant in the analysis of the student resolution process at Nova Southeastern University. She created data evaluation tools and identified theory-driven processes for mediating student issues and conflict. She provided training for faculty and staff on conflict resolution approaches and diversity in higher education.

Dr. Garrido is originally from Texas, where she earned her undergraduate degree at Texas State. Upon moving to Florida, she earned her Master of Science degree in Business Leadership and a Doctoral Degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at Nova Southeastern University. She also holds an advanced graduate certificate in qualitative research.
