It’s a New Era at Carlos Albizu University

News Release

February 19, 2014

The Board of Trustees of Carlos Albizu University announced the appointment of Ram S. Lamba, CSci, CChem, FRSC as Interim President.  Dr. Lamba represents the fourth in a chain of command, succeeding Dr. Ileana Rodríguez García, after five years of significant academic and capital achievements with an unprecedented three Title V expansion grants awarded in one year.  Among their shared achievements during Dr. Lamba’s three-year tenure in the role of Vice President for Academic Affairs is the creation of the Center for Scientific Research and appointment of its director, Dr. Cynthia Garcia Coll.

Dr. Lamba pursued three degrees in chemistry, after which he held a variety of posts across higher education.  He began his professional career as Department Chair of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IAU).  He has served as chancellor, dean, and distinguished professor, and now holds the presidential seat to guide the University through these transformational times.

CAU’s Miami campus welcomes a new Interim Chancellor, Mr. Peter M. Rubio, known to the Miami campus as the head of student affairs since 2004, first as Director of Student Services and later as Dean of Student Affairs.   Peter has been actively involved in the supervision of all areas under Chancellery for several months.  He also serves as adjunct instructor at Miami Dade College.   Peter has held various student affairs leadership positions as Miami Dade College and the University of Miami.

Mr. Jaime Plá Cortés, President of CAU’s Board of Trustees, had a message of hope to share with the institutional community: “I am confident that together we will continue strengthening the Miami Campus and our University as a whole.”
