“Implication and Treatment of Trauma Across the Lifespan”

This is the leit motif of the 9th Annual Mental Health Awareness Expo

To celebrate Awareness Day in Miami, Florida, Albizu University is hosting The 9th Annual Mental Health Awareness Expo titled “Implication and Treatment of Trauma across the lifespan”.  The expo will house more than twenty-five community agencies and is expected to provide educational information to a minimum of 150 participants.  The event will be held on May 19th from 5:00 - 9:00 pm on the university’s campus located at 2173 NW 99th Avenue, Doral, FL 33172.

This year Dr. Jennifer Davidtz, Assistant Professor, from the College of Psychology at Nova Southeastern University will present on complex posttraumatic stress disorder and its treatment.  In addition. On the other hand, Dr. Daniel Castellanos, Assistant Dean, Founding Chair, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Florida International University will present on the impact of antidepressants and youth suicide.

On May 19, 2016, Albizu University will join more than 1,000 communities across the country in celebrating the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) National Mental Health Awareness Day to raise awareness about the importance of emotional and psychological wellbeing.

This year, the Awareness Day national event will focus on crisis intervention and trauma, and the 
presenters will benefit all students by enhancing their awareness of the implication of complex trauma and it treatment. For the past eight years, the Master’s Programs in Psychology, at Albizu University, have offered the Doral Community complementary informational lectures, literature, and continuing education units to licensed professionals in the field of psychology as a way to give back to the community.
