Albizu University at Miami recently received notice from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech and Language Hearing Association (ASHA), confirming the accreditation of the new Master in Science in Speech and Language Pathology program. A wonderful achievement that will bring our institution an excellent standing among others academic centers in Florida State.
ASHA is the national Association for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, scientists, students and credentialing associations for 182,000 members and affiliates in the United States. “This is reason for all of us to rejoice! Albizu Univesity is now part of a selective group of the CAA of ASHA accredited institutions in the State of Florida with a MS in Speech and Language Pathology program. This new program, which consists of 60 credit hours of coursework and clinical practicum, is designed to prepare speech and language pathology professionals in the provision of clinical services to children and adults with communication and related disorders in a variety of settings”, said Dr. Etiony Aldarondo, our Provost at the Miami campus.
Dr. Lizzette Alcaraz has been the academic expert in charge of the editing and proposals writing in order to obtain this important achievement and recognition for Albizu’s Miami and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
"It has been tough, working day and night to acquire this validation in a record time. I’m extremely happy, I’m sure it is going to be a success in registration next year”, said Dr. Alcaraz.
The MS in Science in Speech and Language Pathology began in Albizu University San Juan in 1995. Since then the institution has been one of few private institutions of higher education in Puerto Rico offering this specialized degree accredited by ASHA, with more than 700 graduates. The program in Miami begins on Spring Session, 2016.
